Frequently Asked Questions
We all need to know the facts before we arrive, below are our many common questions to answer any concerns you have. Hope to see you on the water soon!
DRIVING A CAR TO THE MEETING LOCATION
Both locations we use have plenty of free parking.
WILL I CAPSIZE A LOT?
It is infrequent that kayaks capsize, and when it does, it is often due to people acting inappropriately or a sudden or uneven distribution of weight. Our kayaks are very stable and easy to handle & safer with two people carrying the kayak.
Kayak fun has had one capsize in the last four years due to an impatient participant rocking the kayak with the paddle when above his head swinging up and down.
WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?
Kayaking can be an all-weather activity, and in Queensland, you are likely to come across all types of weather when paddling. Though best enjoyed on warm days in summer, you can still enjoy getting out on the water when it is cold, overcast or raining.
If there is a thunderstorm forecast, we will watch its progress & reschedule the tour.
Kayak Fun carries a small selection of raincoats.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
When you head out on a kayaking tour, there are some essentials you need to bring: bottled water, sunscreen, sealable bags for personal items, gloves, a change of clothes and a hat – cap in summer and warm hat for winter. If you want to take a camera on a trip, make sure you can keep it safe when you are not using it.
PADDLING AGAINST THE WIND AND/OR TIDE
Yes, it will make your journey slow. Slower consistent paddling will take you to your destination. If you stop paddling you will lose several paddle strokes. For more information download the APP Called Paddle Prep.
I have viewed a family of six paddling double kayaks with perfect synchronised paddles.
IS KAYAKING SAFE FOR CHILDREN?
Kayaking is definitely safe for children in the right environment, and with our 2.5-person kayak, you can easily keep an eye on them. We suggest that children are aged eight or over for Tingalpa Creek. Kayak hire only.
DO I NEED TO BE IN SHAPE?
If you are not sure about your skills Kayak Fun insists that you book Tingalpa Creek Tour before venturing onto Brisbane river.
